Information or Transformation?

There are so many that have more knowledge of the Bible than I do. Sometimes I marvel at the in-depth knowledge of some Bible teachers. For some the knowledge of the Word has changed their lives, but others seem unchanged. Does our learning only serve to inform us, or does it transform us?

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Rom. 12:2)

The word declares that the true renewing of the mind will “transform” us. This word in the Greek is the same word used when Jesus was “transfigured” before some disciples in Matthew 17. Words are important, and if the renewing of the mind is to transform/transfigure us, why are there so many filled with Bible knowledge but no transformation?

Trying to dot every “i” and cross every “t” with regard to Bible knowledge isn’t a bad thing, but are we being transformed? Are we loving more, giving more, forgiving more, and filled with joy and peace? Is our marriage better, are our children blessed and our future filled with vision?

The grace of God is a transforming power and provision for every need. It is not a doctrine to be understood, but a transformed life to be lived. We can know all mysteries, but if we have not love . . . we are nothing (see 1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

Are you walking in the fruit of the Spirit? Do you spend more time trying to understand Bible trivia than you do thinking of how to bless others? Are you pursuing information to impress yourself and others, or the transformation that will bring blessings to your life and the lives of others?

The gospel of God’s love and grace is a transforming power. The result of a transformed life is peace, love, joy, faith, kindness, generosity and a heart that forgives. Let the Word do its work in you. The answers to your questions will come in time, but the time is now to live a transformed life. That is what the world around you needs to see.

God Or Man Pleasers

John 5:43-44, 'I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?'

This is in reference to the fact that Jesus came in the power and authority of His father to point men to Father God. Jesus existed before His advent on this earth in the form of God and was equal with God. Yet, He humbled Himself and became a servant while here on earth (Phil. 2:6-8).

He did not come to promote Himself but to give His life to provide the way to the Father (Jn. 14:6). In the same way, the Holy Spirit does not exalt Himself, but points all men unto Jesus. Jesus came, meek and lowly, totally submitted unto and seeking only to please the Father.

This is radically different from the way so called 'great men' present themselves. The Roman Caesar of Jesus' day proclaimed that he was God and demanded worship. Lesser leaders ruled by exalting themselves over the people they governed; but, Jesus showed us that 'whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many' (Mt. 20:26-28).

If we are concerned about what people think in an attempt to gain their approval (or honor), we will never take a stand in faith for anything that might be criticized. This one thing has probably stopped as many people from receiving from God as anything else. You cannot be a 'man-pleaser' and please God at the same time. Commit your all to Him - every thought, word, and deed.
