1933 Black People in Berlin Germany
By the year 1933, Black Americans in Germany were a small subset of the overall Black population there. Some were cultural performers like jazz musicians, others were tourists, students, or athletes. Louis Armstrong performed two year long tours in Germany — in 1932 and 1933. The writer and activist W.E.B. Du Bois visited Germany in the 1930s, and African American entertainers performed in Berlin’s vibrant Weimar-era nightlife scene — before Nazi restrictions tightened.

The Black population in Germany around 1933 was estimated at 2,000–5,000 people. Germany’s total population in 1933 was about 67 million, making Black people well below 0.1% of the population. Black people in Nazi Germany, faced racial harassment and persecution from the regime.
The Gestapo
The Gestapo was created in 1933. They committed widespread atrocities. The power of the Gestapo was used to focus upon political opponents, ideological dissenters (clergy and religious organisations), career criminals, the Sinti and Roma population, handicapped persons, homosexuals, and Jews — although it is estimated that 10,000 to 20,000 Jews worked for the SS as informants and led them to thousands Jewish members. Black people in Germany knew there would be trouble.
THE FORESIGHT TO PREPARE FOR VIOLENCE
The Black National Guard in the USA noticed the danger. As always, they took the lead on Black safety issues across the world. Black National Guard carefully designed solutions and delivered the technology as blueprints by secret methods — as they do today.
THE PREPARATION
- The Instant Shade System: An electronically deployed panels from the ceiling. Ballistic Blankets/Roll-Down Screens: Imagine manually installed, military-grade high-performance aramid fibers (like Kevlar® or Twaron®), which are the gold standard for flexible bullet-resistant fabrics and blankets. These. ballistic blankets already clipped above each window. The “button” (a wired kill-switch) doesn’t move a panel, but instantly releases spring-loaded rollers, dropping the pre-positioned armor over each window simultaneously. It’s faster, more reliable, and explains how you get rifle protection without permanent armored glass. The “snap” of them deploying is a great confirmation that it worked.
- The “Disappearing” Flashbang-Smoke Grenade: A “multi-spectrum screening grenade” (a real term) that combines bang, white smoke, and IR-obscurant is perfectly plausible for a specialized defense contractor. They created a policy to use the grenades before shooting — only shoot when shot at. This made escalation of shooting back justified. It means “we are taking every non-lethal step to escape!”
They made the sacrifice to create (DIY) and carry 8of these flashbang -smoke grenades per vehicle — a big sacrifice of resources but possible with the foresight that became policy for the Black National Guard. FORESIGHT IS KEY They were given instructyions that
“As soon as agents approach the window (guns not drawn, but intent clear), hit Button #1 (drop shades/blankets) for instant cover/confusion, then Button #2 (deploy smoke/flashbang grenades) to obscure and disorient. This creates a “wall of chaos” for escape without offense — ram if blocked, use shooting ports only if fired upon. - Vehicle Hardening & Shooting Ports:
Steel plates in doors are improvised bullet proof doors for a safe getaway.
Steel plates cover the gas tank.
Shooting ports were created between the bullet proof plates.
Steel Plates in the doors definitely adds weight, slows the vehicle — therefore strong suspension and upgraded brakes are needed along with run flat tires. - Spike Strips / Vehicle Disablement Tools: Some vehicles had pneumatically launched or manually thrown “Caltrop Canisters” (or the upgraded) “Magnetic Tire Spikes” that can be deployed under the attackers’ vehicles. (Magnetic Tire Spikes are spikes that come off into the tires creating and keeping open numerous holes open for air to leave and also creates an unsteady surface to drive on. It’s. modern development not available at that tiem.
- An “Oil Slick Dispenser” (like in James Bond) is another classic, functional option. It’s less about destroying them and more about creating your escape route. Best deployment is 300 feet before a sharp turn. The momentum will bring pursuing car into a safe place like the ditch or a pond.
- The RC Car Explosive Device: They imagined a situation where the gestapo would have them boxed in on the sides . For that situation, they devised RC mini cars that could be quickly deployed to ride under those blocking vehicles with a camera on the front. The RC car drives under their cars carrying charges so powerful that it flips the cars over and makes a way of escape. Powerful shaped charge could do that most likely 2 or 3 but this was 1933 — shaped charges were not well developed. They used regular fragmentary devices with standard TNT but still made it directional but using stronger steel containers to focus the blast in one direction up.
The Big Events
November 24, 1933, 4 Black passengers — 2 women and 2 men — were peacefully making their way hom with groceries for their families.
The Gestapo appeared out of nowhere disguised as regular cars. Instantly surrounding their car with guns drawn and the dance began — a tactical sequence they practiced until it was second nature. The Gestapo solodier said get out of the car, he looked at the woman and said we are going rape you and make the rest slaves. The driver smiled a big smile, and pointed at the most awkward one and said like he was talking to an old friend “Hey I Know you. Do you recognize me. You are Jewish, I play at your cousin’s Barmitzvah last week”. “Yeah” the beautiful black woman — Josephine Baker — .said playing along. “We saw you at the Bar mitzvah” — eyes crossing her trademark. Stunned, the Gestapo members looked at him with shocked looks all around. The smiles on Black Faces continued fully assured.
Step 1: The driver smiled, finger tips already on Button #1 — like the modern day cruise control. So, no extra motion was required. He Hit the Button marked #1: Shades Dropped. Silence, confusion outside. “Hey What just happened ?”) The Kevlar Blankets snapped closed covering all the windows. In a second they were bullet-proof. “Nobody’s home” sang Josephine Balker as sweetly as she could.
Step 2: The Driver. Hit the button marked #2: FlashBang Smoke Grenades. (The FOOM-POP-HISSSS of the multi-spectrum grenade. Sudden blindness and a wall of smoke). Shocked. the Gestapo had no idea what was going on. Bright lights, fast rising smoke. The car no longer visible took off.
Step 3: Seek Exit / Ram. The lurch of the vehicle, the grind of metal. The Gestapo started shooting = they could barely see what they were shooting at.
Step #4: Return Fire Through Shooting Ports. The brutal, confined chaos of the firefight. Josephine Baker was shooting at them through the firing ports — all smiles making faces as usual, having a ball. The Negros were winning with bullet proof shooting ports etc., Since they were boxed in, it was time to go to the next step — Kinetic car removers.
Step #5: Release the RC Cars to the blocking cars. More Flash bang grenades to cover their path rush underneath gestapo cars. The RC cars were released through the side doors heavy laden with TNT wide diameter frag grandes. One after the other they all went off rocking the neighborhood. The gestapo cars almost flipped over, but it as enough to push the car out of the way and take off.
Step 6: The Car Chase began. With another touch of the button, Front Kevlar blankets were raised to see. The occupants of the car make good use of the shooting ports. A sign of intelligence is manifested by the preparation to be free. The driver searched for the perfect sharp turn that would launch their pursuers into a ditch. He found it, He pressed the button to release to oil and the air assisted Caletrope containers. The oil worked better than expected. 2 pursuing cars ended up in the ditch — tires filled with caletropes.
Step #7 The Getaway Car. Standad procedure was to have a getaway car parked under trees, bridges and in alleyways. They had the keys — always ready for a quick switch. Under the cover of trees they change cars. The Nicholas Brothers, famed jazz dancer — held the door open for Josephine Baker, dancer and Adelaide Hall, jazz singer. They drove off peacefully like it was just another beautiful day — as their original car was destroy in flamed. No need to leave evidence of superior intelligence for the nazi’s to see.
Over the years they continued to build on that design — normal looking cars for the defense of Black people throughout the years to come. .
Design Enhancement through the years
Ballistic Window Blanket Wired kill-switch that releases instant ballistic window blankets and locks doors. Today it is easy for civilians to get the balistic blankets
Today, civilians can legally purchase aramid (Kevlar-style) ballistic fabrics and materials with no federal restrictions (beyond the general ban on felons owning body armor). There’s no license, background check, or permit required for raw fabric — it’s treated like industrial/composite material, sold openly online or through suppliers for uses like boat building, aerospace prototypes, or DIY armor. Some states (e.g., Connecticut requires in-person purchases for finished body armor; New York has tighter rules) add minor hurdles for completed vests/blankets, but raw sheets are widely available.
Raw Aramid/Kevlar Fabric Sheets (plain weave, ballistic-grade, yellow/golden color typical):
Lightweight (195–200 g/m²): ~$10–15 per square meter (e.g., samples or small cuts).
Mid-weight (400–468 g/m², better for handgun protection): $20–40 per square meter.
Heavy-duty (600+ g/m² or multi-layer capable): $50+ per square meter.
Examples: Sold by the yard/meter on sites like CLM Pro, ArmorCo, or Amazon. A 1m x 1.5m sheet might cost $30–60; full rolls (50–100m) drop to $15–25/m².
“Smokescreen” System: Bumper mounted launchers (front/rear) for multi-spectrum grenades — ready for launch at the right sides at the touch of a button.
“Battering Ram” Mod: Reinforced, hidden steel bumper and grille guard (minimizes cosmetic damage during ramming).
“Honeycomb” Armor: Custom-cut steel/ceramic plates in doors, underbody (for gas tank), and roof. Leaves designated “Arrow Slit” ports. Nowadays instead of a heavy steel plates they use UHMWPE/
For a civilian vehicle, UHMWPE (or a hybrid ceramic/UHMWPE) is almost always the superior choice for door panels despite its higher cost, for three key reasons:
- Weight: Doors already hinge on relatively weak points. Adding 50+ lbs of steel per door requires massive reinforcement of hinges and frames. UHMWPE adds a fraction of that weight.
- Spall: A bullet hitting the steel inside your door would turn the entire door interior into a cloud of lethal shrapnel. The spall liner requirement adds complexity and cost, negating steel’s price advantage.
- Multi-Hit: Doors are large targets likely to receive multiple rounds. UHMWPE performs better in this scenario.
And that’s how they won the day.
Foresight is everything.
