Dealing with a Karen Today...
Being that I was born in the 1960's, all of this racist crap I've seen before.
America refuses to learn from it's history to correct the wrongs against certain races. Now, it has come full circle. Here we go again.
Until things are made right, America will continue to return to this point in life.
Now. Let's get to the reason for this blog:
Today in the public library, I met a foreign Karen. Yes, she had a heavy accent, not sure what country.
Anyway, we were sitting in one of the private rooms they have. Charles was working on his music, I was editing my novel.
Mind you, there was a sign on the door stating that "This room is reserved for ---- group from 10:00am and 2:30pm." It was 4:00pm.
The woman comes to the door with this look of disgust on her face. She had condemnation in her voice when she said, "You can't be in here. This room is reserved for ---- group. They need it to pray. This says reserved."
I looked at her and asked, "until what time?"
She says, "It shows it right here. You can't be in here."
I responded, "It says until 2:30pm. It's after 4:00pm and it's not for all day."
She says, "Do you have permission? It's reserved!"
I responded, "Until 2:30pm, and I don't need permission from anyone. If it's reserved for "all day" then I wouldn't be in here."
She looks insulted, and keeps saying, "reserved."
And I keep responding, "If it's for all day, the sign needs to reflect that."
She gets upset, because she has no comeback, so she heads up front to "tell on me." I followed her.
She was telling the security guard as I walked up. When she saw me she went to the front desk. I spoke with security.
I told him she was mad because we were using the room. It has a sign saying "reserved from 10:00 to 2:30."
She is saying we can't use it, but it was unoccupied. He followed me to the room, saw the sign then asked if it's just the two of us. I responded yes. He stated then there is no problem. Just make sure it's clean when we leave. We agreed. He left.
Later on, he came back into the room stating that we were ok, and looked at us shaking his head.
I knew he what he wanted to say, so I said it. She was a racist. I say this because of her tone and look of disgust. Especially when she asked if I had permission.
The guard was cool and reminded us to clean it. He walked out. When we were done, we left. SMH

I feel your pain in all regards. She was blatant with her disregard but I'm glad you stood up to her childish antics. This will continue until we as people do what you did. Stand up, and also blog about it. Get the word out. We have to change the narrative. Shame them at every opportunity. And do as Debbie stated, Keep it moving. Great Job @Stephanie Beach!
